A CASE OF STUDY

TO PROVE THOSE TEORIES I WILL EXPLAIN A VIDEO WHERE ARE REPRESENTED THE TRHEE STAGES OF THE CHILDHOOD.

TODDLER

The first girl that appears in this video is Ashley Paola and she has 3 years old, she represents the Toddler stage. The toddler years are a time of great cognitive, emotional and social development.

Language skill

As you can see in the video Ashley Paola was able to say her name, and say how many year she has, it was possible because at this age they have the ability to recognize themselves; however, they can not process abstract information, due to the fact that their brain is not well developed.

Cognitive development

Ashley was not able to jump ropes because at that age (3 years old) children can not control their body movement because their Gross motor is not well developed. According to Piaget 1 to 3 years of age, children can not yet perform complex operations, like: to control their muscles, coordinate or balance their bodies following instructions.

Furthermore, as you can see, she was able to use scissors, also she could cut a circle, following instructions or helped by an adult, it happen because they can control some movement with their fingers

Psychosocial development

Ashley was able to interact with the other girl, even when they do not have the same age, it happen because they feel the necessity to interact with other in rode to do an activity, so they show interest in being taken into account when others children are playing.

Moreover, I notice that she was trying to imitate the behavior of the other girls because when they jumped she did it, too. Also she looks very enthusiastic about company of other children.

Physical development

She was able to kicks a ball, due to the fact that she can coordinate or control easy movement of her body, mainly enjoy activities that involve the development, and coordination skills domain in simple movements, due to the fact that they want to experiment new experiences, it does not matter if they fall down or make a mistake, they want to improve their habilities.

EARLY CHILDHOOD

The next girl who is wearing light blue blouse is Emily, she is 5 years old, she represent Early Childhood stage in this video, at that stage the Developmental Interaction Approach is based on the theories of Jean Piaget, Erik Erikson, John Dewey, and Lucy Sprague Mitchell. The approach aims to involve children in acquiring competence via learning through discovery.

To begin with, I will write something about this stage, and how children behave, and activities that they are able to do. By this case what Emily was able to do?
There are developmental domains of childhood development- -Physical -Psychosocial - -Cognitive Skills.

Physical development:

Emily was able to jump ropes because at that age she can coordinate her body movement in a proper way to the game, and also she told me that she has been practicing since she was 4 years old because is one of her favorite games.

Moreover, she is able to kick a ball, and run a little faster. According to the table of development skills, pag 19, Children can coordinate all the movements of their body, due to the fact that the gross area is well developed.

Something that catch my attention of Emily was that she was wearing a bracelet and a necklace, and while I was reading I discovered that at that age they can choose appropriate clothing according to the temperature and occasion, most of the time, and also shown interest in using things that adults use, such as necklaces, bracelets and sometimes makeup, due to the fact that they try to imitate their mom when she is putting make up.

Psychosocial development:

As you can see Emily is able to interact with the other girls, this is because at that age, they consider to talk with other something important because they want to take in to account in games, and also they accept to play in the way of others child.

Cognitive Skills:

As you can see Emily is able to write her name, use scissors correctly, and also recognize the days of the week, this is because children at that age, they are aware when they are doing an activity, so they are more persistent, and enjoy participating in solve problems.

  MIDDLE CHILDHOOD

Genesis who has 9 years old, and is wearing white represents the case of Middle Childhood in this video. In this stage children are conscious about what is going on around them, and also, is a time when children develop skills for building healthy social relationships and learn roles that will lay ground work for a lifetime.

Physical development:

Genesis was able to jump ropes, kicks a ball, this is because she show more coordination with her body, at that age they can do the same activities or sports, but they enjoy more, and try to look for strategies that help them to win, also they are interesting in to learn new skills. At this age, physical development during middle childhood is less dramatic than in early childhood. Growth is slow and steady until the onset of puberty, when individuals begin to develop at a much quicker pace. However, they are able to do different kind of activities by themselves.

Psychosocial development:

As I noticed Genesis enjoy playing with others, and also she understands rules easily, she can follow it, too. According to the article at that age children are creative they own identity because they can recognize what is going on in the society, they are able to find a possible solution to some problems for example en the family.

Cognitive Skills:

I noticed that Genesis proposed ideas to the others girls to they could cut the circle, she was giving to them instructions, this is because in this stage they are able to think in the logical way, and propose to others, how to solve a problem.

MIDDLE CHILDHOOD

MIDDLE CHILDHOOD 6-9: Middle childhood begins at around age seven or eight, approximating primary school age and ends around puberty, which typically marks the beginning of adolescence. In this period, children are attending school, thus developing socially and mentally. They are at a stage where they make new friends and gain new skills, which will enable them to become more independent and enhance their individuality.

Some activities that they can do at this ages are:

1- Physical skills:
 a) It is adept at handling modern appliances (phones, video, etc..)
 b) Participate in various games and is part of various equipment Sports                   equipment

EARLY CHILDHOOD

EARLY CHILDHOOD 3-5: Early Childhood helps children to become better aware of all of the natural physical stages of growth children experience in the first five years of life.

Research shows that films and stories about early stages of human development fascinate children and they are particularly intrigued by comparisons of themselves now and earlier. It may be helpful at this level to inform students about changes that will take place in them during adolescence, since when they reach puberty, they may be too embarrassed to talk to adults about it. The importance for growth of adequate rest, proper food, regular checkups, and shots to prevent disease should be supported by some science behind the advice. (Benchmarks for Science Literacy, p.132.)

Some activities that they can do at this ages are:

1- Physical skills:
 a) Runs increasing and decreasing the speed.
 b) Better coordinating fine movements
 c) Cut corners with scissors
 d) Draw recognizable objects such as a tree, a house or a         sun.
2- Cognitive development:
 a) Use the scissors properly
 b) It has up to 10 adults imitating

Introduction

Introduction

My name is Raúl Montoya. I am 26 years old, and I am majoring in English teaching at Universidad Don Bosco, El Salvador. I am part of the course called Teaching Practicum I in which my partners and I teach English classes to children of the ages of 6 to 9.

My objective for this class is: “By the end f the semester I will be able to understand children´s behavior and achievements by applying teaching techniques and activities that work better in the process of learning.”

I am going to tell you some events that have had an important role in my personal growth. When I was in 8 grades, I had the first contact with English subject, and was a really nice experience because I had a U.S. teacher, so we enjoyed the class with him. Then in 9 grades I took the English subject, but I did not learn as well as I expected. However, when I was in high school I learned more, and I got the idea of studying English, but I did not. When I was studying Systems Engineering Technician at ITCA-FEPADE, I was living in a boarding school, there I had the opportunity to teach Computation and English in free courses to children, it was really exciting, and also it helped me to take the decision to studying teaching at the University, apart from which, I love teaching.

The last year (2012) three partners and I had the opportunity to give a free course as part of the social hours in “ Instituto Nacional de San Pedro Perulapan” it was really interesting and helped me to put in practice in the real school what I have been learning through these years at the University, preparing classes, activities were a challenge for me, due to the fact that was my first time giving classes in a public school and high school students. However, at the end, it helped me to learn many things such as: monitor students in the class, search strategies when they are a little shy to participate in activities, develop activities according to teaching materials, prepare exams, oral presentations, and also helped me to improve my skills in English, due to the fact that I had to prepare before giving the class.

Now, I am very interesting to learn more strategies, and activities to prepare the class, and how to handle a group of children in a real class, so I am sure that at the end of this semester I will be ready.
